– Options & Pricing –

Package #1: 20 hours of private GRE tutoring – $2,350*

This package is ideal for students who want private tutoring to comprise the bulk of their GRE preparation. While you will be encouraged to dedicate a substantial amount of “self-study” time outside of the tutoring sessions, 20 hours is sufficient time to cover a lot of ground and leave you fully prepared across all sections of the GRE.

Package #2: 10 hours of private GRE tutoring – $1,250*

This package is ideal for students who need to brush up on a variety of concepts or who want to learn several of our most useful test-taking strategies that will increase your score the most. It is enough hours to make real progress in particular areas, but may not be enough for a truly comprehensive study plan. It is an extremely useful complement to one of our other course options.

* Note – Payment will be completed in two parts:

  1. An initial payment of $115 gets you registered and covers your first 1-hour tutoring session. During this diagnostic session your tutor will assess your strengths and weaknesses, teach you some core GRE strategies, and prepare a customized game plan for the rest of your time together.
  2. The remaining balance will be due before your second tutoring session and will cover the the remaining hours of whichever plan you choose. Register for the package you think you want, but you can make a change after your first session if you and your tutor determine that you need more/fewer hours; only $115 is charged at the time of registration regardless of which package you go with.

– How Online GRE Tutoring Works –

Students only need a free Gmail or Skype account to begin a videoconferencing session where both tutor and student can react to verbal and non-verbal cues, making each online tutoring lesson feel like it’s being conducted in person. All tactics and techniques are demonstrated by our expert tutors on a shared virtual whiteboard where students can follow along with the instructor and engage on the board. All sessions are recorded as digital documents, so students can review lessons to reinforce concepts and approaches.

The process requires nothing beyond a laptop, Internet, and scratch paper (just like the GRE!), so computer-based tutoring builds good habits for test day such as writing down process of elimination outlines and taking good notes. We believe our approach to online instruction provides a more intuitive and certainly more personalized experience than anything else in the online GRE prep market.

After each session you’ll have two texts to review: The Official Guide to the GRE (we recommend the eBook version to build good habits for test day) and a digital copy of that day’s whiteboard filled with study notes and GRE strategies specifically tailored to you.

– Expert GRE Tutors –

Our online GRE tutoring is delivered in partnership with MyGuru, a 1-1 tutoring company we have worked with to bring 1-1 tutoring to the Dominate the GRE brand.

best private gre tutorOur primary online tutor is Stefan, who is MyGuru’s Director of Online Instruction and who is also the test prep professor at Northeastern Illinois University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Southern California and a Master’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. He has scored in the 99th percentile or higher on a variety of standardized tests, including the ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MAT, and SAT, all of which he has taught for more than a decade. In fact, at a previous test-prep employer, he was once voted best tutor in the Midwest region based on student feedback.

Stefan’s engaging style — perhaps honed while producing college and professional sports at ESPN — has helped hundreds of students from high schoolers looking to beat the ACT or SAT to undergrads and professionals looking to get into top tier graduate schools such as the University of Chicago, Harvard University, New York University, and Yale University.

“I had the best experience with Dominate’s tutoring. My tutor was Stefan and he is without a doubt the best tutor I could have possibly found. Quant had been a pain point for me for months, and Stefan was able to teach me in a way that I understood and showed me how to think logically and critically about the problems that didn’t require you to “do the math.” Moreover, he was patient, understanding, and encouraging. The only thing I wish is that I had found Dominate Test Prep sooner!” — Courtney M.

– FAQs –

How soon can I start?

Soon. As soon as you purchase one of the private GRE tutoring packages above, our lead online GRE instructor, Stefan, will be in touch with you to determine whether he or someone on his team will be working with you given your situation, schedule, objectives, etc. If you’re not quite ready to get started yet, that’s okay too. It’s still best to make the commitment and purchase the hours so that your instructor can at least block out the time on his calendar and plan accordingly.

What if I want more than 20 hours or fewer than 10 hours of private GRE tutoring?

We do offer a 40-hour package and may be able to offer a 5-hour package in select cases. But we have found based on working with hundreds of students for over a decade that either 10 or 20 hours is ideal for most students. If you’re looking for more than 20 hours, a cost-effective way to add additional instruction is to supplement your private tutoring with some of the other on-demand video courses we offer.

When will sessions take place?

You and your instructor will make that determination together. If you need to meet in the evenings after normal work hours, that can usually be accommodated. If you’re able to meet during the day, that’s a possibility as well. For the most part, Sundays are the only days that aren’t available for scheduling sessions.

How long will it take to get through all of the hours I purchase?

We’ll create a schedule that ensures we get through all of the hours before your scheduled GRE date. Ideally you’ll meet with your instructor a minimum of once a week for between 1-1.5 hours per session. If we need to meet 2 or even 3 times per week to get you ready for the GRE in time, then we’ll do what it takes. Again, you and your instructor will work out the best study plan based on the number of hours you’ve purchased and the amount of time you have between your enrollment and final test date.

What if I want to work with Brett? Is that possible?

Brett makes every effort to be the lead tutor for students who are currently enrolled in one of his online courses (or who have previously completed one). Alternatively, you can enroll in the Platinum Package for the Full GRE Course, which includes a live weekly office hours session that Brett leads personally. Think of it as private tutoring mixed with an online course.
